Detailed Description & Review

51.CAJ135  J. Leiva Omeya Bass Studio Cajon

[51CAJ135 Leiva Omeya Bass Studio cajon]100% Russian Birch construction throughout, the Leiva Omeya Bass Studio cajon is the best sounding cajon we have ever heard.

Decorated in characteristic J. Leiva Omeya livery, this cajon produces a broad, dynamic range.

The Bass Studio Cajon suits taller players by virtue of its extra 1.5" height, resulting from inclusion of a bass reflex system at the bottom of the cajon. An adjustable plate slides across a bass port, allowing air to escape much in the same way as from a reflex bass-bin. The result is a very tightly controlled, focussed, almost ready-EQ'd & compressed bass tone with few interfering mid-tones, analogous to a bass (kick) drum on a drum kit. The latest models have this adjuster relocated to the bottom of the cajon (click on photo below to enlarge), between the substantial feet, making adjustment quick & easy.

[Views of Leiva Omeya Bass Studio Cajon bass port arrangement & external adjustment]A removable rear compression plate further enhances the remarkable separation between bass & high tones, whilst allowing the cajon to retain warmth, so as not to sound too 'dry'.

Balance between bass tones & high tones remains constant across playing intensities, yet it is possible to us subtle changes in finger tension & pressure to produce clearly defined changes in sound & volume.

The use of other percussive strokes such as slaps, pressed notes, finger techniques etc each produces their own nuances & tones to the sound. Slap strokes are particularly effective producing a very musical 'pop' sound. The bright sound of the birch shell allows a wide variety of effects, clicks, pops & snaps to be easily interspersed within your playing, again in great balance with the other tones; clearly standing out without dominating or getting lost.

6 internal snare wires can be adjusted via the 3 external DTS adjusters to give  accurate control of snare response & tone across the whole tapa (front) face of the cajon.

The Leiva Studio Bass cajon is a highly flexible, professional drum; powerful bass tones & cutting highs, with sensitivity to match.
